INTRODUCTION TO NATIVE AMERICAN SPIRITUALITY LECTURE
2 - 3:30PM
We invite you to join mixed-blood Cherokee Elder, Grandfather Rick, for an inspiring lecture and spirited discussion on the basics of native "ways". Rick will focus on those practices that are available right here in South Florida, including "canunpah" (cha-new-pah) or "working pipe" and "initi", which common culture calls "sweat lodge". He will touch on sundance and indigenous language, including the relationship between language structure and one's world view or spiritual understanding.
Rick McBride is a mixed blood Cherokee who has walked the Red Road for over 35 years. He was named Cante Lute (Red Heart) by the spirits through his Sundance chief. He completed his 19th sundance last June on the Cheyenne River Res in South Dakota and is traditionally trained to lead ceremonies such as Initi (purification lodge), prayer with the Canunpah (Pipe), drum healing and so forth. www.mixedblood.info.
