ABOUT THE GAME

This Game has been created by enlightened sages in India many centuries ago to help people change their lives, evolve, purify the mind and reach one’s full potential.

The exact time and location of the origin of the game is unknown, but it is estimated to be more than 2,000 years old. Some researchers believe it is about 5,000 years old.

Infinite knowledge of the Cosmos and the Self is contained in the game, and it is revealed individually in order to facilitate learning and transformational process in a playful form.

The game has had many names and forms, used in different cultures through out the centuries.

Currently there are about 50 versions of this game boards kept in history museums and private collections around the world

There is a Sufi version, Buddhist, Jain, Hindu, Muslim and others.

Children’s game “Shoots and Ladders” is based on this same game, but without the original context.

In the Tibetan version of this game from the 13th century, the compiler of the game board, Pandit So - Pan, wrote his view on the purpose of playing the game :

Most of the living beings find themselves neurotic and helpless. Continually dissatisfied, tossed by the waves of birth and death ; they build up only karmic causes of further strife and hardship. Therefore in playing this educational game they may become certain as to the effects of vicious and virtuous activity. It will then be possible for them to create good karma and improve their situation.

Other names of this game are:

Gyan Chaupar - Game of Knowledge

Parama Pada - Steps to the Highest

Moksha Patamu- Stares to Liberation

Shatranj Al Arifin - Chess of the Wise

Jnana bazi - Road Map for the Soul
