KAWA ARIKI: The Goddess Returns
A Traditional Maaori Women’s Workshop, Healing the Past, Present & Future.
KAWA ARIKI - The Goddess Returns is a workshop for women who want to move ancestral and historical pain held in the body and find a greater possibility for oneself. During this 6 day / 5 night residential retreat you will be Immersed in the sacred Maaori knowledge passed down through generations. You will learn the art of feminine healing, wellness practices, and spiritual empowerment from the revered Maaori healers, including Atarangi Muru and her team. In the modern world, the mind rules. There are ways to help calm the waters and bring peace in the body to bring a stillness. This retreat contains bodywork that moves you through many of the things that hold you back, where you have allowed fear to rule and you have maintained mediocrity.
The retreat is open to women from age 18 onward. Exercises and protocols (tikanga) are actioned to release physical, mental, emotional, personal, and environmental (grown within) issues, that we create (self-determine) or copy (role models), which we hold on to or pass on (mokopuna / future generations). This work uses traditional practices of self bodywork taught at deliberate age groups starting with the young:
8-12 years old, Kia Maoa Te Tinana - to ripen her body (virginity intact)
14-18 years old, Puawaitanga - the feminine blossoming (curiosity/exploration/virginity intact)
22-52 years old, Putake - her reason for being and includes whanaungatanga (family), manaakitanga (hospitality), Kaitiakitange - guardianshop of heart, home and care of natural resources
60+ years old, Te Kuai - the eldership comes forth / passing the knowledge of family, respect, honor, love, peace, forgiveness, the home, tribal teachings, the way forward (future) and from behind (the past)
KAWA ARIKI is about the adornment of a woman who is growing herself, ready to bloom to the full hearted capacity of womanhood, armed with self knowledge and understanding, which is her empowerment. To exude your essence from this possibility is not only powerful, it is your absolute right, from birth (alpha) to death (omega), this is a pathway.
When you return to your home, your life, it is guaranteed that you will be vibrantly alive, ready to share and inspire the women, young and old in your family, community, work, other places you come together.
The Maaori People are the indigenous peoples of New Zealand (Aotearoa). Sent by their elders (Kaumatua), the Maaori Healers have traveled the world over the last 25 years spreading their ancestral teachings and bringing their unique body/soul work to thousands.
The foundation of Maaori Healing Arts is an ancient body of sacred knowledge based on universal principles dating back thousands of years. It is a treasure, passed down from generation to generation. It helps the body to shift back into balance, closer to its natural state of being, and it returns one closer to their spiritual vibrations.
Kawa Ariki - The Goddess Returns is a long held dream of Aunty Heniwera Phillips and Atagrangi Muru because the teachings are a dying practice. How they are done, why, and the form and structure are being returned to the body. Participating in these teachings, you become a part of a global whanau (family) who embrace and support each other’s growth and development. Each woman learns specific ways to work on herself at home so that she is strong, vibrant, and in good feminine health. When the time is right and the practice has been done, a woman begins to teach her daughters, granddaughters, nieces, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, all women all ages. You inspire by leading the way, being open, safe, realistic, and honoring in this work. Light the way forward, elevate the feminine principal to where she is loved, creative, strong, and peaceful.
ATARANGI MURU
Atarangi Muru is a knowledge / lineage holder of the ancient Maaori Healing Arts of New Zealand.
Atarangi was raised in the small coastal village of Ahipara and is affiliated to Ngati Kuri, Te Aupouri and Te Rarawa tribes. Her name translates as ata (dawn) rangi (light) and in the old language means ‘the realization of one’s visions’ (Naida Pou attributed the korero). Atarangi’s drive in the work is the growth and support of people using specific tools for self-healing. Her passion for the healing arts was ignited by her elders where her training began at an early age, as it did for many in those times. Being taught at the knees of her many Kuia (Elder women) and Koroua (Elder men), is the traditional method. Today she passes these healing arts forward to her children, grandchildren, and her extended family both biological and spiritual. Atarangi has been traveling the world over the last 25 years spreading the ancestral teachings and bringing the Maaori's unique body/soul healing work to thousands.
Atarangi will be assisted by 3 other team members who will be available to support the levels of “manaaki” required for this event. Manaaki refers to hospitality, and it is our duty as hosts to uphold and respect the mana (inner authority, inner knowing) of all, by providing the utmost care for your welfare.
